About Massif Mountain Gear Company and its Nomex® Fleece Products

Like many of you, I am a search-and-rescue professional. Over the past several years, as a member of the Grand Teton National Park Rescue Team, the Jenny Lake Rangers, I’ve participated in hundreds of rescue missions and fought countless backcountry fires.

While on those missions, I was constantly reminded of how impractical my equipment was especially in terms of weight, durability, comfort, and practical features.

So out of necessity, as well as frustration, I started to design and build custom equipment and clothing for myself and the other Jenny Lake Rangers. (Before becoming a member of the JLR, I made custom outerwear and climbing equipment for over 15 years. I’ve outfitted individuals, as well as entire teams, for ascents on four of the world’s five tallest peaks — including Everest.)

Soon, word spread about the functionality and practicality of the equipment I was making. What started out as a personal effort to improve the gear that my fellow rescue rangers and I had to contend with turned into more work than I could handle in my spare time.

So I formed Massif Mountain Gear Company to help build and distribute my specialized gear to rescue professionals, fire teams, ski patrols, EMTs, the military, and private industry.
